Pride before a fall

Articles in recent weeks by some players have given a air of confidence in next seasons campaign. However I ask the question are we getting too big for our boots.

Perhaps the article which showed signs of over confidence came in the May 13TH addition of the sports Argus. Whilst stating that since the defence kept 13 clean sheets in league one there is hope that the defence will be able to cope with the league two strike forces. Whilst a strong goalkeeper is a must, it should be remembered the goals that were conceeded by the same defence not marking at set plays or just switching off.

The fact that we do have a certain amount of quality in the side and were top of league one in August, and 11th at the end of December, before we lost our strike force doesn’t mean give us two strikers and we will be alright. Things are just not that simple.

I must admit that poor management is the other thing that cost us last season and hopefully this has ben resolved with Richard Money. Yes we have a nucleus of a good squad with the right additions, but so do a lot of other clubs.

So message to Anthony Gerrard, be positive but be realistic. Message to Richard Money, please make sure the players go into the season with there eyes open.
