The Saddlers started their pre-season campaign off with a 2-1 defeat at local non-league outfit Rushall Olympic this evening.

The Saddlers fielded two trialists – one we know, Olly Marx – former Wrexham centre half and an unknown striker who we are lead to believe is named Michael and is of Cypriot origin.

Goals from Justin Richards and an own goal from Nicky Devlin either side of a striker from A.Trialist was enough to see the Saddlers slip to defeat.

The first goal of the game came on forty minutes as Justin Richards poked the ball past Liam Roberts.

The Saddlers equalised as A.Trialist (thought to be Cypriot) had a long range effort which slipped under the Rushall keeper.

Rushall grabbed a winner late on as the ball ricocheted off Nicky Devlin into his own net.

Not the best start to pre-season but gives Dean Keates an idea of where else he needs to strengthen the side ahead of the new season.
