‘Rueben Reid was one of the eye catching signings’ – 1887RedArmy

|

This week I spoke with @1887RedArmy to hear their thoughts about our upcoming fixture.

How’s your season been so far?

It has been a very successful season for us so far. Fans were expecting a mid table finish so to be in the play off places is superb and we are playing some of the best football in years. Fingers crossed we can keep it up for the rest of the season

Best player?

Ryan Broom – on his day, easily the best player in our side and can be the difference in any game

Pantomime Villain?

Alex Addai, he is a very inconsistent player for us but with is probably one of the quickest players in League Two. He seems to get some stick from opposing fans. Unfortunately won’t be playing on Saturday due to suspension.

Favourite ever player?

Grant McCann – First joined us on loan from West Ham before joining permanently. Left footed midfielder who had a superb set piece in him, creating and scoring many goals for the club and celebrated promotion to League One

Former Saddler’s loanee Rueben Reid is amongst your ranks, what do you think about him?

He was one of the eye catching signings for us this season but it hasn’t quite worked for him yet. He picked up a knee injury in pre season and was out until November, he came back and looked sharp, scoring against Port Vale but unfortunately picked up another injury and has been out since. Potentially back in the squad for Saturday.

Last season you finished mid table, what has changed to see you fighting for promotion?

Last season started poorly and we were towards the bottom of the table in the first few months of the season. We then replaced Gary Johnson with Michael Duff who has been a revelation since. After a slow start, change of formation to 3-5-2 and a few changes off the field the form picked up and after Christmas we were in the top half for form. This season has started the same way and despite a small drop in form recently, we are well on our way to our best finish for a few years and a potential promotion push.

Predictions for the weekend?

2-1 Cheltenham, we have been much better away from home recently but picked up a much needed win at home to Oldham last Saturday which will give us confidence for this weekend. I think it will be a close game with Walsall being bang in form but we will just edge it.

Finally, one random fact about your club?

In the 2014/15 season we occupied every position in the League Two table at some point during the season. Ultimately, we ended the season being relegated after being top of the table in September.

Thanks to 1887RedArmy for answering those, we wish them the best of luck for the season ahead, and look forward to what is sure to be a good game.
