As part of my series of replys to questions on the current batch of rumours going round the corridors of Bescot. I will give my views on the latest whisper.

The rumour
The local council is under govermental pressure to resolve the poor state of repair of Joesph Leckie school, which is located down the road from Bescot if you didn’t known. This has been well publised in the press.

How this effects the club is two fold. One suggestion is to turn the school into a sporting Acadamy. To do this the land next to the school would be reclaimed (bye bye Daves cafe)This would be leveled and the stream enclosed etc. The cost of this would be met by selling the land in Delves which the saddlers currently loan for training. Also to offset the cost the council is interested to see if they can have a similar agreement with Walsall to use the new facilities and use it for the Walsall youth development and academy set up. If so they hope that the club can apply for grants from the FA etc to part fund it.

Jorge’s View
Well I am not sure all the facts as described above are strictly true, perhaps some of you can confirm or not.
However the suggested end result, training facilities in walking distance and a Academy standard youth set up certainly fits the bill. Also it matches what Jeff Bonser desires for the club. However there are too many if’s and buts to getting it going. Also when dealing with the council there are too many political considerations.
To me this goes down as nice idea and a possible missed oppourtunity.
