Ryan started his career at Norwich City, making loanspells at Leyton Orient, Kilmarnock and Notts County. He moved permanently to Leyton Orient in 2008. He made 84 appearances for the O’s but was released by the east London club at the end of last season.

Jarvis will pair nicely alongside Jon Macken and give welcome support and relief to upcoming striker star Will Grigg.

He is no stranger to boss Dean Smith as he worked with him while he was assistant manager at Leyton Orient.

Smith told the official site: ‘He has the right credentials; he’s got a good attitude and has the technical ability to go with it…He scored some important goals for us at Orient and hopefully he’ll do the same for Walsall.’

Jarvis added: ‘I just want to be playing regular football again. Last year wasn’t a good one for me, so I just want to get myself into the team and help us push on to where the manager wants us to be.’

Jarvis went on month’s loan to Northampton after falling out of favour at Orient in November last year and made just 3 appearances for The Cobblers. He made just 9 appearances for the O’s last season, all as substitute, scoring four goals.
