Sad News on Paul Merson

Express and Star reporter Martin Swain has written about Paul Merson`s descent into ever-deepening debt and personal turmoil, which will sadden many but surprise few,

He writes ‘This engaging but fragile 39-year-old former England footballer has been a car crash waiting to happen for almost his entire professional life.’

Merson is today reported to have squandered the last of his assets from a multi-million pound football fortune – a £300,000 flat in Four Oaks, Sutton Coldfield – and returned to his parents council dwelling from where it all began more than 20 years ago.

This is very sad and no matter what mistakes he made as a manager he still remains one of the most gifted footballers to pull on a Saddlers shirt, and hence I for one wish him the all the best and hope he can finally slay the demons that have haunted his life.
