Saddlers on tour- Barnet

This is one of those trips which will remind us what we are missing by suffering two relelgations.The ground has not seen any major investment for some years. Only one side of the ground, the East Terrace, is completely covered and this is over terracing. So with the weather forecast been unsettled it could be a ‘singing in the rain day’ as we will be housed in the one end open to the elements (1000 seats). However since part of this covered stand can be given to away supporters (500 spaces)we may be okay.This terrace is opposite the Main Stand which is quite small and straddles the half way line a poor version of Fellows park I suppose.This stand was built in 1964, is seated with a capacity of 800. Either side is a small terrace and a family area.
The rest of the ground is a mish mesh of terraces. At one end is the North Terrace, which is for home supporters. This end is small and has a fence to stop balls going out of the ground…are you Blakenhall indisguise. At the other end, the South Stand is a ‘temporary’ stand, which has been there for a few years now,it has been reduced to just five rows. This end has a bank of green seating that is open to the elements.

However not a lot has changed since our last visit there is a new social club and administration offices which sits at one corner of the ground.

Don’t forget the slope, never quite as bad as Yeovil but still a feature, some work has been carried out to reduce the effect but it is still noticiable.

As for future changes these seem unlikely since the club has stated a desire to move. Problems in the summer with the local council and saftey measures has heightened this desire. In fact at one point it looked like Barnet were going to have to play there home games at another ground.

Car parking is a problem, or can be there is street Parking or there is a car park at High Barnet Underground Station (£2).

Going by tube is another optionThe nearest tube station is High Barnet which is on the Northern Line. ( five minutes walk to the ground) Otherwise by train from Kings Cross into New Barnet station. This is quicker for saddlers fans than the tube, especially this weekend as work on the tube means that some section are been replaced by bus rides, which could be a nightmare.
