A good start! The Saddlers secured a 2-1 win at Don Valley this afternoon to kick off their pre-season schedule before the big kick off on August 8.

Goals from Alex Nicholls (62 mins) and Richard Davies (85 mins), along with a consolation from Rotherham’s Tom Pope (86 mins), secured the win with Josh O’Keefe, Mark Hughes and Sam Parkin making their debuts in a Saddlers shirt.

However, the big news of the day was the surprise inclusion of former loanee Jamie Vincent, who was recently released by Swindon.

Hutch is allegedly in the market for a left-back after releasing Paul Boertien last month, with the former Derby defender looking to secure a deal with the club whom he rejected five years ago.

The next Saddlers friendly is at home to rivals Wolves on Tuesday, July 21 (KO 7.45pm).

Walsall team: Gilmartin (Ince, HT); Westlake (Weston, HT), Smith (Roberts, 71), Hughes, Sansara (Vincent, HT); Bradley (Taundry, HT), Adkins (Mattis, HT), O’Keefe (Davies, HT), Till; Parkin (Nicholls, HT), Grigg (Deeney, HT)
