Ian Breckin has signed a two-year deal with Chesterfield, just a week after rejecting a move to Walsall.

The 33-year-old, who was released by his former employers Nottingham Forest, took the option of returning to the club where he spent five years between 1997 and 2002.

Breckin had stated in an interview with the Express and Star that he wanted to stay closer to home up north, and he seems to have to got his wish.

In other news, ex-loanee Peter Sweeney, who was released by Leeds United, is apparently in talks with a move to Grimsby.

The 24-year-old, who made seven appearances on-loan in 2007, was due for talks with Lincolnshire outfit on Thursday, which would seem to be a missed opportunity for CH to sign a decent player.

Yet again, another player slips through our grips due to lack of money and ambition.
