Jon Whitney`s men will be looking to bounce back from Saturday`s defeat as they travel to 2nd placed Scunthorpe United on Tuesday evening.
The main pre-match discussion has centred on the issue of team selection and whether Whitney will stick with the same team for a seventh consecutive game.
Assuming that Whitney sticks with the 3-5-1-1 formation, Walsall could line up with: Etheridge, McCarthy, Preston, O`Connor, O`Connell, Edwards, Chambers, Osbourne, Morris, Oztumer, Jackson.
Amadou Bakayoko and Flo Cuvelier would be the two to miss out from the Bolton defeat, and especially in Bakayoko`s case he seemed to be showing the strain of 6 straight games.
Walsall will definitely be without Scott Laird, as he is on loan from tonight’s opponents.
Scunthorpe themselves had a disappointing result at the weekend as they went down 1-0 at home to Shrewsbury, so they will want to maintain their 4 point lead over 3rd place Bolton. Iron boss Graham Alexander has done a superb job since being appointed manager in March 2016 and nearly clinched a surprise play-off place in 15/16, missing out on goal different to Barnsley.
The previous meeting between the sides this season saw Scunthorpe running out 4-1 winners, with Josh Morris firing an impressive hat-trick. Erhun Oztumer scored the Saddlers` solitary goal that day and Whitney will be hoping he can add to his impressive goal scoring tally tonight at Glanford Park.
A point would certainly be a good result and hopefully we will start to see some planning for next season in the team selection.
