A week on from the signing of left-back Luke Leahy, Jon Whitney has once again bolstered his backline by completing the signing of former Crewe defender, Jon Guthrie.

Guthrie, who is adept at both centre-back and full-back, has signed a two-year deal at the Banks’s Stadium following his exit from Gresty Road.

Aged 25 and having made over 120 starts for Railwaymen, Guthrie seems to possess sufficient experience whilst also having scope for improvement.

Reaction to the signing on social media has been mixed, with emotions ranging from cuatious optimism to downright anger. What’s clear is that Whitney is now starting to establish his own team, and with that comes the responsibility of being even more accountable for results. And, with a tough start to the season, Whitney will be hoping that his new charges can well and truly win the fans over in those crucial first few weeks.

In terms of further incomings, rumours are circulating that the new ‘keeper will be unveiled at some point tomorrow.
