The difficulties with working in London til 18:00 during the week, are that Tuesday night away games in the North of England are notoriously difficult to get too. So, with the days of following the scores on Ceefax confined to the archives, I settled down in my local digs to follow the match courtesy of everyone else’s updates on Twitter.

Going into the game I couldn’t really work out how I thought we’d do. We could either go and score 2 or 3 goals, or we could get hammered. Or, given how this season is going, it could conceivably have been both.

My attention was momentarily diverted by the domestic clubs shocking starts in the Champions League and, as just as I was starting to enjoy Man Utd’s potential demise, I was suddenly interrupted by a text from Bramall Lane. ‘Holden off, penalty…scored it’, was the short, accurate and to the point message. Back to Twitter I went to see that the E&S were claiming Featherstone had sold Holden down the river with a woeful backpass. Another contributer was saying it was Paterson’s pass, while a third attributed it to Baxendale. I decided at this point that it must have been Chambers.

I was also fearing that the big number 5 that night may have been the score on The Blades side of the board.

I waited for news of a second goal…and waited…and waited, but to give the lads their due none was forthcoming. Reports even suggested we were unlucky a) not to be playing 10-a-side when their keeper nearly snapped Will Grigg in half, and b) we actually had chances to nick a point.

However, that was also not to be, and we slipped to our 4th defeat in 5 league games, and as far from the playoffs as we are now near to the relegation zone.

Bury away suddenly becomes a very important game. Not only did they hammer us, twice, last season but they’ve also started the season poorly. Its also where my brother lives so, having paid him a visit on Saturday morning I’ll actually be able to report on a match I’ve actually watched, and hopefully will earn us 3 much needed points.
