Sign em up! Says Smith

Dean Smith has hailed the contract extensions of Will Grigg and Jamie Paterson, hopefully signalling a more sturdy Walsall team for the future.

Saddlers have traditionally waited to the end of the season to offer new contracts, which ultimately risked quality players leaving for other clubs.

Smith wants to secure the contracts earlier in the season to reward well performing players and to strengthen the squad in doing so.

Smith told the Express and Star: ‘It`s safeguarding the club`s and players` futures. I always say to everyone ‘sign as long as you can` because they need to keep the contracts as long as they can.’

‘If they are earning the right with their performances then you have to reward them with contracts.” he added.

With Alex Nicholls, Oliver Lancashire and Manny Smith all out of contract at the end of the season, hopefully signatures can be inked so Saddlers can rest easy come June 2012. George Bowerman will also potentially come to an agreement soon to secure him at the Banks’s.

I like the sound of this? Corner turning?

Up The Saddlers!
