After much speculation over recent weeks Walsall boss Dean Smith finally opened up to the media about the situation with David Grof.

Although Groffy has made errors this season many Walsall fans felt he was harshly punsihed by manager Dean Smith who has since loaned Karl Darlow from Forest, Aaron McCarey from Wolves and more recently Ian Mcloughlin from MK Dons to fill in the void.

Smith told the Express and Star “Yes, he`s still a young goalkeeper. He had a tough time when he came back after Karl`s initial loan.

‘Then we brought Aaron in and he did really well for us. David has got to compete with other goalkeepers to prove that he is good enough to get that starting position.

“I have seen his fight. He came and asked me if he could play in the reserves against Walsall Wood last week.

“It was going to be an under-21 game. That shows David`s attitude and it can only be good for us.”
