Walsall boss Dean Smith has today said Michael Cain has apologised for Twitter outburst and confirmed James O’Connor was upset on Saturday evening but didn’t walk out on Sunday as rumours suggested.
Speaking to Walsall Advertiser, Dean Smith said ”I spoke to him (Cain) today and he’s come in and apologised to the players for what he put out there because he agreed it was something that shouldn’t have gone out there and he should have come and spoken to me about it.
‘I’ve sat down with him and explained my reasons (for leaving him out). I explained them on Saturday evening as well but it’s hard for a young kid to take in what you are saying at a time like that.’
‘He’s turned up to training today and trained really well. He’s been a very good player for us and I’m sure he will continue to be so until the end of the season.’
Smith also distanced himself from rumours that James O’Connor had walked out following the news he wasn’t in the starting XI, Smith said ‘He (O’Connor)was disappointed and angry when I told him on the Saturday night and I would expect him to be.’
‘But Jim’s the consummate professional and he was brilliant before the game, during the game and after the game as well.’
Both players trained today and are available for selection on Saturday.
