After weeks and weeks of speculation, Walsall boss Dean Smith today updated the situation regarding out of contract stars Febian Brandy, Will Grigg and Ben Purkiss.

Smith confirmed that Ben Purkiss was due to meet club officials to finalise the new terms on his contract.

Top goalscorer Will Grigg returns from holiday this week and Smith said either way, the strikers position at the club will be finalised this week.

Speaking to the Express and Star Smith said; ‘The situation currently is Will Grigg is on holiday, he gets back later this week and then we will have a decision’

However it seems less likely that Febian Brandy will stay with the Saddlers after boss Smith confirmed that discussions will take a little longer as the former Manchester United star is ‘indecisive’ regarding his future.

Smith said ‘I think he is in a indecisive place. I know he has spoken to several agents and I’ve had a meeting with him’

‘We are back in training on June 24th and if he isnt going to stay or cannot make a decision, we will need to move on’

Personally I find it a little baffling regarding Brandy, considering we offered him a way back into football following his indifferent seasons before it found him plying his trade with Panteklios in Greece.

60% of you voted earlier this month and said we would miss Brandy the most out of the players whose contracts expired.
Only time will tell…
