So its Kevan Broadhurst

Although Kevan Broadhurst has been mentioned in some media sources he wasn’t considered a front runner with many fans. A large amount of fans longed after the name of a high profile manager such as David Platt who was strongly linked. Others wanted a man with strong disciplinary record and the track record of organisation and grit, characteristics the team have lacked in recent months. Broadhurst however is an appointment, which for one left me cold. I was hoping for a wave excitement and sudden hope of avoiding the drop….sorry it just didn’t happen. Lets hope the players are lifted more than this particular fan.

Lets look at his managerial record
Record;
Northampton P77 W26 D14 L37
Bristol Rovers P6 W3 D2 L1
Overall P83 W29 D16 L38, 1.24pts/game,
57pts/season

On the face of it not so impressive, and these stats alone look likely to bring a mixed reception from the Saddlers faithful. However he has been in this position before keeping Northampton up when he took over following their poor start. He has coaching experience at Birmingham and Oxford and Bristol Rovers as well as holding his UFEA A badge.

Jeff Bonser has made clear his hope that the appointment will be on going. ‘Our arrangement is to the end of this season, and Kevan’s brief is obviously to keep us in League One,’ he said. ‘If that objective is achieved, there is no doubt that Kevan will continue as manager for next season, and that is the only scenario I want to consider.’

However JB has only one real failure in appointing a manager and Broadhurst has kept teams up. Whilst he will be accused of taking the cheap option the fact is Bonser has faith do we. He must have ticked all the right boxes for the board, and who of us had confidence in Graydon when he was appointed, so the King is dead long live the king………….Broadhurst has asked the fans to be the 12th man and despite any misgivings that’s exactly what we need to be
