Walsall have announced the signing of Danny Sonner who had refused a contract offer from Port Vale. However the rumoured size of the offer seems to be poles apart with Vale been quoted at £1000 per week whilst sources closer to Danny Sonner are saying it was a basic £300 per week. Whilst nobody can be certain this seems to have been the stumbling block, Danny wanted security whilst Vale wanted to make his wages up with bonuses etc. So in steps the Saddlers.

We all know what we will get with Danny Sonner and to judge him on his 28 appearances for us in the Championship under a manager with whom he did not get on with would be unfair. It is fair to say that he has performed well in league one and that is what we need ….proven league one performers and experience in key areas to support the young rising stars.

The Vital Port Vale site mentioned the trans action as follows…
He has been described by Martin Foyle as a ‘marmite player’ – you either love him or hate him, the majority of fans at Vale Park loved him. Along with Walsh and Constantine Sonner was a cut above everyone else at Vale during this season, a genuinely talented midfielder.

So despite some misgivings by some Saddlers based on his performances for us at Championship level it appears that the signing of Danny Sonner isn’t the back ward step some had predicted.
