OLDHAM 1-0 SADDLERS (L1)

The optimisim that came out of last Tuesday’s 1-0 win against over Bristol Rovers quickly evapourated this afternoon.

Despite Mark Hughes returning to full fitness, Hutch decided to start with the skipper on the bench and stick with McDonald and Vincent at the back. A slight mis-match when you are up against the might and strength of Jason Price and Pawel Abbott.

Again, the Saddlers failed to test the opposition, with just three shots from a Walsall shirt in the entire match!

Julian Gray was handed a place on the bench and came in during the second half to make his Saddlers bow. Unfortunately, it was to no avail.

Polish giant Pawel Abbott headed the winner on 78 minutes to give the Latics all three points.

The introduction of Josh O’Keefe ten minutes from time did little to influence what in truth was a game with little chances.

Next up for the Saddlers is a trip to Leeds United.
