Stayin on track!

Walsall’s fine form did not go off the tracks at railway town Crewe, as they extended their unbeaten run away from home to nine games. Though for the second saturday running it was another disappointing afternoon for the Saddlers faithful as they were far superior in every department to their opponents. In truth this was more disappointing than Northampton the previous saturday as the Saddlers dominated the match from start to finish.

They should have been three nil up before the half hour mark was up, Tommy Mooney hit the sidenetting from a deep Fox corner. Then soon afterwards the homeside were indebted to Ben Williams as he pulled off a fine side to deny left back Fox. Then Williams superbly denied Sweeney after a fine pull back from Mooney.

Crewe shellshocked and absent of any match winning players, not my words but the words of Director Of Football Dario Gradi earlier in the week, found it hard to find their feet on the wet pitch. But the impressive Eliott Bennett did fire against the post in a rare Alex attack.

The second half was still of Saddlers dominanace as they put in their finest away performance of the season. Gerrard headed over when he should have done much better and then Mooney missed a glorious chance to take all three points when his close range header was cleared off the line by the relieved Gary Roberts.

The fact there was such a tinge of disappointment for a point being gained away from home is clear testament to the brilliant work done by Richard Money. The Saddlers are a cohesive unit, who are all working hard for each other, they deserve to be in the top six and it will only be a matter of time before they cement their place with the elite. What looks to be a straightforward test on Tuesday against Northampton could be more tricky as it is the FA Cup but this will be followed by the arrival of Leeds United who will test our play off credentials.
