Simeon Jackson finally managed to score a goal on Saturday – his first since the 1-1 draw against Charlton Athletic in March 2017. However, most Saddlers fans agree that the squad is desperately short of attacking flair as we head into the first league fixture of the season.

The lack of genuine pace is a major concern, with utility man Joe Edwards likely to deployed as a left-winger against Bury. In terms of strikers, Jackson and Amadou Bakayoko are the only senior forwards on the books, with Mitch Candlin and Cameron Peters providing options from the academy.

Whitney’s latest update suggests that talks are ongoing, but we’re not really any closer to adding another forward option to the ranks.

Speaking to the Express & Star Whitney, said:

“We have time to get an addition before the window closes,” he continued.

“I am still talking to a few. Options are open. They have been a lot of phone calls and a couple of meetings but nothing definite.

“We are hopeful but there is nothing definite yet.”
