Well, we could have been talking about the goalkeeping prowess of Paul Smith or the re born goalscorer Christian Roberts or the on loan star Micheal Timlin, or even a certain Kevin James who appeared in our colours last year.

Instead we will talk about a certain Lee Peacock. A player who so nearly became a Saddler last season. A move that might have kept us up, but also might have kept Paul Merson in the job a bit longer, so perhaps alls well that ends well!

The important part of that deal was that Paul Merson let Jorge go before Lee had actually put pen to paper. Then a last minute change of heart happened when Swindon offered him the move closer to the area he wanted. So he moved from Sheff Wed to Swindon and the rest is history so to speak.

A couple of twists of fate has ended up with Lee playing for the manager who let him go, a certain Paul Sturrock. Lee is known for his robust style and has been a prolific goalscorer in the past. His goals per game stat is an impressive 0.26. He started as a trainee at Carlisle before Mansfield parted with 75k to take him to field Mill. An impressive scoring record of 29 goals in 80 starts earned him a move to Manchester City, with a cool 500k changing hands. However he found things diificult at Maine road and he made just four starts. Soon a move to Bristol City followed with a 600k fee involved a further 131 league starts brought 54 goals and a move to Sheff Wed, and to finally meet up with Paul Sturrock Before that move to Swindon.

This season, Lee has scored 10 goals and picked up five yellow cards. His last goal was away in the tv game at Lincoln, so Swindon fans will be hoping he is due one. However my Swindon Town friends have been telling me that it is not unusual to find Lee in a more midfield type roll, so lets hope that blunts what is usually a good record against the Saddlers
