The Kevin Broadhurst Question

So the question is will KB be given the keys to the budget for next season.

KB be has been honest in his views of the situation and feels that the next manager whoever it is will have a ‘wonderful opportunity’ and ‘a strong possibility of progressing quickly’. He has also stated what his aims would be if he gets the nod, ‘ the club would look at the budget early, there are maybe 10 or 11 players under contract for next season. But there are also players out of contract and we have to get into the market place. and if there are many left out of the current squad then I will be amazed. You have to look at the whole package. It needs a major re think and drastic action’

There are not many fans who would argue with him, but such action takes money and we all know what Jeff’s views on spending are. Also we will not have the same draw for players. Merson for all his faults did have the pulling ability to attract players who wouldn’t otherwise consider the saddlers. Also we must not throw the baby out with the bath water. We do have some young players with potential such as Gerrard etc, if they are to leave we must ensure we have sell on clauses incase we suffer events similar to those of Karl Hawley, Andy Bishop just to name two.

So what are KB’s plus and minus points.
He knows all about League two, he knows what it takes to get out.He has clear set objectives, He has a high work ethic and is very much a disciplinarian. Things which the club drastically need. He isn’t affraid to change things to try and get the best out the circumstances but equally believes in a settled team. He also has gained some respect by talking a good game.

On the negative side some of the blame for relegation lies at his door, although they were not his players and he is not to blame for the lack of fitness etc he inherited. Tactically is he good enough I don’t know. Is he any good in the transfer market..I don’t know. Will he win over the 73% of fans who have turned against him !!!

On a personal note there is something about KB I like but I doubt my own judgement after been conned by Paul Merson. After two relegations I have also lost faith in JB’s ability to make the right choice.

it has been said that this next choice could well be a watershed for the immediate future of the saddlers I pray it turns out to be the right one.
