The Saddlers Weekly Roundup

|

An eventful week has seen the Saddlers win 2 games, and progress in the cup, but here are other news stories from Walsall this week.

On Saturday, Miguel Llera led his young Saddlers to 3-1 victory over Port Vale. This saw them climb up to 4th in the Youth Alliance Northwest division. They face a difficult trip to Salford tomorrow who are flying at the top of the table.

The reserves also had a fixture this week. They played out a 1-1 draw against Grimsby Town. A decent result for a team comprising of some youth players, trialists and Kory Roberts. It is games like this that are so helpful for players to regain match fitness, and any match Roberts plays in will strengthen and help his return.

The club also announced the contract extension of Liam Roberts. As per the clubs policy, it is an unspecified length, however it has been called a ‘long term contract extension’ in the clubs statement. The news was hit with a mixed reaction from fans. Personally I think that Liam is a good goalkeeper who has proven in previous seasons that he is very talented. I believe last season and the spell just gone is still affecting his confidence, and a long contract will help settle him back down.

On Saturday, the draw was made for the Leasing.com trophy, where we found out that we will be playing Chelsea U-21s. The fixture will be played on Tuesday 3rd December, at 7.45pm, with tickets pricing at £10 Adults, £5 Concessions.

Today the club announced the date and ticket prices for our 2nd Round clash with Oxford United. The fixture will take place on Saturday 30th at 3pm. Tickets will cost £12 for adults, £6 for concessions and a family ticket will be priced at £15. The Main Stand, and all tier of the Homeserve stand will be open for purchase.
