The Wednesday Saddler

Well, we are top of the league, and so we should be. We are not even playing our best football, in my humble opinion, but teams have played us and created more chances, while we scored goals. This is what I will call the ‘anti-Walsall,` as Merson`s way was to play the most mouth-dribbling football the world had ever seen, which at times we did, but we never put the ball in the net. ‘Dickie Dosh` has put his money where his mouth is and just told the team to play direct attacking football, which has seen us have the best goal difference in the league of 13. Fantabulous! This is what we should have been doing last season. It is simple and the only way to win a football match, which is an important thing. If we can keep doing this, other teams do not stand a chance and they will simply throw the towel in (hopefully). I am going to put my neck firmly on the line, so I could be strangled if this is wrong, and say that we are going to achieve automatic promotion; we just need to believe we can, no matter what the result was at Gay Meadow. The worst is over, let`s look to the future.

On the transfer front: I have heard a rumour this week that Mark Wright is being targeted by John Gregory, manager of QPR. And do you know what, I don`t care! ‘Wrighty` has played well this season, but every time I see him play he frustrates me so much. He either takes on the player, beats him, and then puts in a cross so weak and slow, the goalkeeper goes on holiday to the Bahamas and is still back in time to pick up the ball; or he doesn`t beat his man and falls over looking like a spitfire; or even still he puts in a beautiful inviting cross, but there is no one there, mainly because it was his own area. I would not miss him, as we have Darren Wrack to return, and even Tony Bedeau can play on the right wing. The bid could be in the region of £750,000 (I still cannot stop laughing), so cash in for heavens sake! Try and raise it to one mill, because if they`re stupid enough to pay that much, why the hell not? It would not be the same as Fryatt, who should`ve gone for at least two mill, but only went for £750,000. Go on ‘Dickie,` risk it.

Another goalkeeper in and another goalkeeper out. That`s what will happen, apparently. I think Rene Gilmartin will benefit from gaining experience on-loan to another club, but I think he is ready to push Clayton Ince. He is a good goalkeeper, who with time, can be as good as ‘Wacka.` Ok, bit optimistic, but he is a good keeper considering he is 19. However, ‘Dickie` has put his dosh on the table to bring in another goalkeeper in the shape of the former Gillingham and Darlington man, Bertrand Bossu. He is a 6ft 7 Frenchman, who actually made his debut against Walsall, but on the night we ran out 2-1 winners. Bossu is a good shot stopper and generally handles well, but in my opinion, Gilmartin will be the way to go next year.

Right, next up is Mansfield Town at the Bescot. Great! They have only won three games this season and lie 19th in the table. Should be three points, but it`s never that simple. We shall see.
