Torquay-not a walk on the beach

Richard Money has gone to press to state that we are not on form at the moment, well I can’t argue with that. In the first half we wer not up to speed and playing with no real tempo and with too many passes going astray.

As in any game there will be plus points and minus points. For me on major plus was the return of Darren Wrack who started his first league game for over a year. He showed some good promise and once settled I am sure he will prove to be an asset to the saddlers. He showed in small cameos that he is too good a player for this level. In fact some of the touches and vision were better than the form prior to his leg break.

The minus is where do we play him, we have Wrighty and Bedeau fighting out the favoured right wing spot, left wing see’s him drift inside too much, which leaves right back central midfield or just behind the striker. It is this jack of all trades which means he might not settle into anyone position.

Whilst one I favour would be a central midfield position to provide that bit of creative invention we have been lacking. Against Torquay as they did against MK Dons the midfield pairing of Dobson and Keates whilst hard working just didn’t shine, time for a change perhaps.

Defence against Torquay was strong with Roper man of the match and Westwood then Dann providing an suitable partner. Clayton Ince was never really troubled to any extent. If I was a torquay fan I would be worried and concerned at the style of play. Ian Atkins must be on borrowed time unless results change in his favour soon.

Up front our attack could be accused of misfiring and whilst the team are providing goals from other areas, we need the front two to get back on line soon.

It baffles me that ther are so many question to raise against a team which, have yet to conceed a league goal at home, and have lost only once so far in 17 games. In truth we are in a position any Saddler wouldn’t have dared dream of last summer. Seventeen played, 3 points clear at the top, 7 points clear of 4 place, and twelve points clear of the chasing pack in eight place.

So I guess that it’s a case of is the glass half empty or half full….we still need 12point to stay up!!!!
