Walsall Boss Pulls Out Of Deal After Player Wanted More Money

|

Walsall boss Dean Keates has today showed defiance that the club won’t be held to ransom whilst negotiating over contracts for new signings.

In an interview with Express And Star Keates said that he was close to completing his third signing of the summer but the player in question asked for more money and continued to “move the goalposts” so Deano pulled out of the deal.

“They kept moving the goalposts and I got to the point where I felt enough was enough. I pulled out myself and said they were being unrealistic.”

“You get to the point where you think, ‘If you are going to keep doing those things’ you’re not the type of person I want at the football club. If you’re going to go back on something you said you wanted when we have got to a point where all parties are happy – to then move the goalposts, I didn’t feel that was right.”

Now it remains to be seen who player X was but it’s refreshing to see that Deano will stand his ground and won’t be made a fool of.

Keates has confirmed that the club are still in negotiations with players but this time of year can slow down the process with most on holiday.

Taking the only players in contract this is how our squad lined up so far –

Goalkeeper – L.Roberts

Defenders – Devlin, Kinsella, K.Roberts, Guthrie, Leahy, Cockerill-Mollett

Midfielders – Chambers, Dobson, Kouhyar, Sangha, Ginnelly, Morris, Hayles-Doherty

Strikers – Bakayoko, Candlin, Cook

Just seeing the quality and depth in that squad above sends shivers down your spine – although we are only in June and there is still nine weeks until the football season.

It just proves the mammoth task Dean has to get a squad together for next season.
