Walsall Chasing Wrexham Defender

|

Walsall are chasing former defender Manny Smith according to Pete O’Rourke on Twitter.

Smith is in the final year of his contract so would require a transfer fee and the Saddlers are said to be chasing him along with Cheltenham Town ahead of the transfer window closing.

Smith made one hundred and twenty four appearances for the Saddlers scoring seven goals.

Smith left the Saddlers in 2012 and went onto play for Notts County, Wrexham, Gateshead before moving back to Wrexham last summer.

Smith has made one hundred and thirty six appearances for Wrexham scoring four goals in two stints.

He is from Birmingham and still only twenty nine but we very much doubt he will be able to make the step back upto League 1 having spent the last six years in the Conference however if he is seen as back up then it would be a decent squad player.

We will continue to monitor the situation ahead of Thursdays transfer window closure.
