Walsall Fail To Add The Missing Link

|

So there we have it the summer transfer window has been and gone and despite seventeen incomings this summer you feel we are still missing that certain something.

Walsall boss Darrell Clarke was convinced that he would add to his squad yesterday with a creative winger the top of his list however we failed to get that man in.

Speaking to the Express and StarExpress and Star yesterday morning, Clarke said

“I’m still looking for another wide player,”

“We have got an offer in for a loan for a high level wide player. And I have got two or three behind that if that falls through.”

Unless we can tempt a free agent then the Saddlers must make it to January with just Rory Holden and Wes McDonald as our only two wingers.

Since the second pre-season game many supporters have raised concerns about the lack of creativity in the squad and three goals in six games backs up their judgement.

It remains to be seen whether Rory Gaffney will provide that missing link but as many have stated already it’s the service to the front line which needs to improve more so than the strikers themselves.

It is now up to the coaching staff to find that bit extra in the players here and hopefully we can get close enough to the top seven/top ten for when the January window opens in order to push on into the new year.

Its nothing to panic about but it is slightly disappointing.

The Saddlers head to St Andrews tonight to face Coventry City in the EFL Trophy.
