But Walsall don’t pay transfer fee’s it is a well known fact they would rather spend the budget on wages and signing on fee’s if required, ask any agent and they will tell you they don’t get much cash out of the Saddlers coffers either. However the news has broken from Kidderminster that we have had a bid turned down for midfielder Russell Penn…no relation to Don by the way.

The England C International, who has a year left on his contract with the Blue Square Premier outfit, has attracted a lot of interest over the summer. It is possible that the fact Kiddy have broken the news in an attempt to start a bidding war and up the price.

Jimmy Mullen has now made a firm bid but Kidderminster chairman Barry Norgrove said the offer was ‘nowhere close’ to what they think he is worth. It will be intersting to see if we go back with a second offer especially since Kidderminster have used the fact to there own advantage, this may upset some of the guys down the Banks’s

Barry Norgrove also told the club’s official website: ‘ We received an offer from Walsall for Russell but it was nowhere close to matching our valuation of the player.

Performed excellently
‘He’s one of our best players and has also performed excellently for the England C team last season, and we didn’t think the bid reflected his ability.’

A former Scunthorpe Youth Team player, Penn joined the club in 2005 and has since made 129 appearances.
