Walsall have today signed Colchester right back Joe Edwards on a two year deal following his decision to leave the relegated Essex side.
Edwards, who can also play in midfield – started his career at Aston Villa but found his chances limited so joined Bristol City in 2001 and stayed at the club for nine years during his development.
Edwards only played four times for Bristol City and was loaned out to Bath, Stockport and Yeovil. His performances for Yeovil earned him a permanent deal in 2013 and he helped the club gain promotion to the Championship for the first time in their history.
Edwards was captain of Yeovil on their relegation to League 1 but was unable to keep the Glovers and they were relegated for their second successive season.
Edwards decided to leave for Colchester in 2015 but he suffered his third successive relegation as the U’s were relegated last season.
Edwards was named Colchester players player of the year last term.
During his career Edwards has made over one hundred and eighty appearances and has scored six goals.
