Walsall Sign Former Newcastle and Blackburn Midfielder

Walsall have today captured the signing of former Newcastle and Blackburn midfielder Danny Guthrie.

Guthrie played for the Saddlers along with a whole host of trialists at Leamington on Tuesday evening.

Guthrie who resides in Shrewsbury started his career as a youth team player at Manchester United before moving to Liverpool. He featured three times for the European Champions before moving on loan to Southampton and Bolton.

He made a permanent move to Newcastle United in 2008 for a few believed to be £2.5m – where he played ninety-two times in four years scoring seven goals.

Guthrie was released by Newcastle in 2012 and joined Premiership new boys Reading, he played sixty two times for the Royals before moving on loan to Fulham.

He made a permanent switch to Blackburn in 2015 and played forty times before moving to Indonesian side Mitra Kukar last season. He featured for them thirty times scoring once before returning to the UK.

Guthrie has represented England at Under 16 level.

With over two hundred appearances in the Premier League and the Football League, Guthrie certainly has the experience we have been crying out for.
