Tonights Express and Star is carrying the news as follows…
Walsall FC could rename its Bescot Stadium as part of a big new sponsorship deal with Black Country brewers Banks`s, it was claimed today.

The home of the Saddlers could become the Banks`s Stadium next season under money-spinning plans due to be unveiled next month.

Banks`s today confirmed it will reveal a major new investment in the club soon, sparking speculation that the club could become the latest to hand over stadium naming rights to a sponsor.

The speculation comes just 24 hours after Walsall announced the end of their nine-year shirt sponsorship deal with Banks`s to begin a new partnership with Walsall-based conservatory makers EasyFit.

So this is exactly what we hinted at but couldn’t expose just yet…there are going to be some upset folks at Bescot sorry Banks’s stadium about this.

What we have been led to understand is the deal will involve the renaming of the Stadium and also involve investment to rebuild the away stand, which of course will have a 40 metre advertising hoarding facing the motorway, thus giving the club a stand for free, and after which a continual money stream, as well as yet more conference and hospitality facilities. It isn’t known how the deal has been put together and how far reaching the deal is, but if it does turn out to be as described it can only be good for the club. Bescot Stadium has no real sentimental connection with the fans so there should be no back lash to this change.

However the loss of the Gilbert Allsop stand does still hit a nerve with the fans, perhaps it would be nice if the new stand (which would be an identical copy of the exisiting Floors to go stand) could have the Gilbert Allsop Suite or such like.
