The nashing of teeth and ringing of hands is getting greater in the Saddlers end, as fear of throwing it all away seems to be the main emotion of the vocal minority of Walsall fans.

In truth nothing has been decided one way or another. There are plenty of teams who would be happy with second spot with 12 games to go. However the recent poor run of form is more of a concern. Form whether it be good or bad is tempoary and I believe class will come through in the end.

The problem last night that despite DD shaking things about a bit there were no glimspse of class to be seen. In a dire match Walsall shaded pocession in the first half without ever looking like scoring any threat on goal comming from the home team. The loss of Ian Roper in the 16th minute didn’t help but in truth it was once again a midfield problem which blighted our game.

With the second half Walsall fans hoped that we would step it up and go looking for that all important first goal. However on the 52nd minute the only goal of the game came as a good cross was attacked by the striker to give the keeper no chance. Pity it was fashioned out by the Hatters.

A header a shot wide nothing really to write home about as Walsall’s failure in the final third once again starved the strikers of any real chance.

In the end a late equaliser for Mansfield at MK Dons and shock defeats for Swindon at Barnet and Lincoln at home to Hereford left us in second spot. An 88th minute own goal gifting Hartlepool all three points and top spot. Barnet at home on saturday has turned into a must win game.
