Walsall to be smoke free?

Smoke free League, is the banner under which the Football league described it’s wish to have all stadia smoke free next season.

Of course Walsall already has smoke free areas, but this means that policy will be extended across the ground. The work places are allowed to have smoke rooms etc, but it is unclear how this could impact on how the policy is implemented. Although the outlook seems bleak as the policy is looking to exceed the expected government Legislation. hence it seems that smoking will not be permitted throughout the the stadium confines from July 2007.

In announcing The League`s new ‘smoke free` policy Chairman Lord Mawhinney said:
“In re-branding The Football League we made a serious, long-term commitment to encouraging a new generation of supporters to our matches. This is the latest stage in that process.

“We aim to get more families and young fans going to watch their local Football League club. This policy will ensure that doing so does not have a negative effect on their health.”

Whilst no one can really have an argument about the effects of smoke upon an individuals health, there are bound to be arguments. Some have put the view that in the open air of the stand can that really effect others, whilst those with Asthma and other conditions have counter argued. Also in this age of political correctness verses individual rights, I am sure some one will put forward the shout proclaiming ‘what about my human rights’ Answer to such questions seem unclear and thus begs the question has this policy been researched and thought through, or is it a case of jumping on a political band wagon for some hidden agenda….world cup 2018 support perhaps.

Oh well at least the smoking saddler supporters have a stand sponsored by the Walsall NHS Primary Care trust, so get texting away guys and girls.
