Andy Bishop, last seasons prolific conference striker started out at Walsall before been released by Colin Lee. To be fair he would have had trouble breaking into the first team whilst we were in the Championship. We also had a crop of promising strikers at the time, such as Matty Fryatt and Karl Hawley. So it wasn’t so much of a mistake to release him but it was more of a case of bad timing for Andy to be at the club at the time. He would have surely got a chance if he was here as a youngster now, as has Troy Deeney.

My first memories of Andy Bishop was a case of mistaken identity. I had gone to see a reserve pre season game local to me, In the hope of watching the young striker everyone was raving about…a certain Matty Fryatt who was scoring for fun. However it was Andy who caught the eye at first with a goalscorers instinct and even then a good ability to bring others into play..then Matty scored two.

So after last seasons goalscoring run with York, Andy has had a bit of a harder time with Struggling Bury. Well not really he has hit 15 league goals and 5 FA Cup golas on Bury’s ill fated cup run and a single league cup goal for good measure. So our make shift defence will be in for a rough time. The problem is Bury have failed to score in there last three games, the last time they scored was when Andy scored a brace in a 3-1 win over Shrewsbury at gay meadow.

I for one would not complain if Andy was one of the budding league two stars we cherry picked for next season. However he has been rumoured to be attracting interest from Championship clubs.
