Walsall Wednesdays

Happy Easter indeed. Two more points and that`s it folks, we will be in League One?again. With fixtures such as Notts County, Wrexham, and Bury, promotion can be achieved by the time Walsall step out on the County Ground on the last day to play Swindon. However, we have also opened up the title race, but is it still possible? Monday`s 1-0 win over Hereford has given us a chance to overhaul the strong Hartlepool, who are famous for hanging monkeys and Maximo Park.

Time to speculate: who is on their way out of Bescot this summer? I would like to put forward some names of players whom I think will be closing the door for a final time come the end of May. I don`t think there will be as many exiting players as there have been in the past two seasons, where as many as 18 players have driven off up the M6 with reject on their back bumper. But who is it to be this year? I have a suspicion over Darren Wrack. He has come back from a horrific injury and has made several appearances, scoring some vital goals, but has his spell at Bescot come to an end? DD seems to favour Mark Wright over Wracky at the moment, which does surprise me. Another name for the hat is Tony Bedeau, although this would be no surprise to anyone, as the Saddlers flop has not impressed since his summer move from Torquay. We shall see.

Next up for the DD`s men: Nott County. As I have said, a win at our close rivals will confirm promotion at the first time of asking. Walsall want the title as much as, if not more, than just automatic promotion. That`s fine and I hope that we do, but we have to hope Hartlepool slip up and we need to win on the last day at promotion rival Swindon, which is not an easy fate. Just when you thought the season was nearly over and all eyes on the Premiership to see who wins the title, Walsall make it exciting. Big thanks to Shrewsbury and Barnet for that one.
