Walsall Wednesdays

Congratulations to Bristol Rovers, commiserations to Shrewsbury. It was tight, but someone had to join us in League One next year, and I am personally gutted that it wasn`t the Shrews. It would have been another derby games, which would have brought welcome financial reward to both clubs, mainly to stop ourselves from renaming the players to Banks`s or even the phone number of a text service, not to mention the pitch and the goal posts.

Now for a quick word on Walsall`s new signing Danny Sonner. Great, he cometh again..eth. He is 35. Need I say more. I will have to, as this week`s column will be considerably short if I don`t. He has apparently just played his best season ever in football at local rivals at Port Vale, which is a good thing because he has experience at League One level. However, this was the reason we got him for old Division One football, as he would provide experience, as well as being a good passer and an expert penalty taker. He does have a temper that is similar to a rampaging herd of rhinos, but can he come back and still cut for next season, when he will be 36? I will leave that up to Danny boy (Sonner not the song!).
