Walsall Wednesdays

What a performance from the lads. It had everything, professionalism, good forward play, calm defending (most of the time), and ruthlessness. All these things, as DD said after the game, will bring us rewards come the end of the season, if we are consistent enough from now till May. Grimsby were an average side and they reminded me of Walsall from last season under Merse. They tried to play pretty football and carve the defence open, but they were simply not good enough to do that and they defended as about as effective as a snooze button on a smoke alarm. Martin Butler didn`t have the most productive of games as he is capable of, but he still managed to battle away, along with the inform Hector Sam to grab a brace, which capped off a better display than the last home match against Bristol Rovers. Also, I was particularly surprised at the sharpness of Par Cederqvist, who looked unbelievably good in comparison to Tommy Wright, who was as effective as a tank made out of cotton wool. He looked strong, pacy at times with the tenacity of an Andy Rammell combined with work-rate of a Jorge Leitao. Hopefully, Par will be the next Saddlers legend in the Hall of Fame, but I can see him scoring a few goals and then getting a serious injury, as we are Walsall, we never have good strikers for longer than five minutes; Matty Fryatt.

Anyway, looks like DD is keeping his money in Bonser`s pocket this January, and who`s to blame him. We have signed Cederqvist and Lyall and I think that we don`t need anyone else at the moment. Every other position on the pitch is catered for, so we only really need somebody to come in if there was a serious injury to one of our main players. If someone was to come to Bescot, I would want to see a winger to replace Mark Wright as I find him to be one of the most frustrating players to watch. His constant promise to run at the full back, and to be fair he does beat him, but he doesn`t take the ball with him and that doesn`t help anybody, except the full back of course.
