Walsall’s mid winter break

January is traditionally a bad month for the Saddlers this time around we have time off.
At the moment the table is pretty reading but by the time we have the Sky camera’s here for the visit of Grimsby Town on the 15th January things could be very different.
The current table
Team P W D L GD Pts
1. Walsall 26 16 8 2 +25 56
2. MK Dons 26 16 3 7 +15 51
3. Lincoln 26 16 2 8 +17 50
4. Swindon 26 15 5 6 +13 50
5. Hartlepool 26 14 5 7 +11 47
6. Wycombe 26 12 6 8 +7 42
7. Peterborough 26 11 5 10 +0 38

Of the top six Lincoln, MK Dons and Hartlepool both play twice, meaning the Dons could have a max of 57 points and top spot. Lincoln joining us on 56pts and Hartlepool on 53pts. The others Swindon (max 53pts) play once.

However a closer look at the fixtures gives us cause for hope.
Sat 6th January
Shrewsbury v Hartlepool
Wycombe v Rochdale

Monday 8th January
MK Dons v Lincoln

Sat 13th January
Chester v Wycombe
Hartlepool v MK Dons
Lincoln v Shrewsbury
Swindon v Wrexham.

So as you can see Mk Dons play 3rd place Lincoln and top of the form table Hartlepool, so if they come away with two wins they will deserve top spot.
Wycombe will be hoping for 6 points although Rochdales honeymoon period may get in the way. Also Swindon would be expected to pick up 3points at home to Wrexham. Funny enough local rivals Shrewsbury could do us a massive favour by picking up points against Hartlepool and/or Lincoln….I wouldn’t bet on that!

So what is going to be happening with the saddlers during this break, well rumour has it DD is trying to arrange a behind the doors friendly to keep the lads oon form.
