Port Vale are ready to offer Walsall`s Craig Pead a fresh start in the Potteries as he waits on a contract from The Banks`s Stadium.

Vale manager Martin Foyle is keeping tabs on Pead`s situation as Walsall continue to deliberate on which out-of-contract players to offer new deals to.

And it is believed he is ready to offer the utility man a two-year contract at Vale Park and is in pole position to land Pead`s signature if Walsall decide not to extend his two-year Bescot stint.

Pead started 30 games in the Saddlers` League Two title-winning season and his efforts earned him a place in the PFA`s League Two team of the year.

Craig has been playing at right back for the Saddlers although he played in midfield before Merson moved him into defence. However he has impressed when comming off the bench into midfield, perhaps more so than when he has started in midfield.

As a PFA player, his fellow proffesionals rate him highly, but in truth many saddlers fans would envisage Craig as more of a squad player next season, if DD views it the same way then we may find that the offer from Vale is a better one, in which case it could be bye bye Craig, I for one hope it isn’t.
