Wasteful Walsall Rue Missed Chances

|

How the hell didn’t we win that game? How the hell did we lose it?

The Saddlers somehow managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory yesterday as we continued to head closer to League 2.

It would be harsh to criticise the players yesterday as they were more than a match for Barnsley despite nineteen places and thirty-six points separating the two sides.

Saddlers missed chance after chance followed by a moment of madness in defence to gift Barnsley all three points in the last minute.

Isaiah Osbourne scored from a sweet volley only to his goal ruled out for a 50/50 challenge, the Saddlers were denied a penalty, Blackett-Taylor had a goal cleared off the line (which looked over) and Gordon also missed a clear cut chance – these are the things that go against you when you are down the wrong end of the table.

In the last minute the defence forgot how to defend and somehow Jacob Brown managed to slip the ball between Roberts legs. It was heartbreaking, demoralising and probably the goal that will inevitably relegate us.

Its a case of what ifs. We have faced three of the top four sides in League 1 and have looked like beating them, but somehow managed a big fat zero points return!

We now head to Doncaster next weekend – having won our last five at the Keepmoat, hoping to continue our performances and grab a much needed three points.

After Doncaster we have six cup finals with relegation rivals Accrington, Oxford, Southend, Wycombe and Shrewsbury coming up.

Strap yourselves in lads and lasses it will be a nervy ride!
