Last night the Saddlers defeated Burton Albion in the first group game of the controversial Checkatrade Trophy.

Goals from Keiron Morris and Josh Gordon put the Saddlers in a comfortable lead but in true Walsall fashion, we made lives difficult for us conceding in the last five minutes setting up a nervous finish.

Morris headed in the first following great play from Maz Kouhyar and the second goal by Josh Gordon was probably our best team goal of the season so far with no less than five players involved in the build up before a superb ball by Nicky Devlin found Gordon at the back post.

The Saddlers return to League 1 action this weekend as we face an inform Barnsley side. Should the Saddlers get something from the match then the noise of being play-off challengers might just turn up a notch.
