After a summer of will he, wont he – Craig Westcarr finally put pen to paper on a new one year deal today.
Following the departure of Grigg, Brandy and Paterson it is a relief to keep a player that was instrumental in our upturn in form last season.
The 28 year old has scored 5 goals in 16 appearances for Walsall inluding a handful of assists.
Westcarr began his career at Nottingham Forest but spent alot of time out on loan including spells at Lincoln and MK Dons. He moved permanently to Cambridge United in 2005 and scored 8 goals in 31 appearances. He then spent his longest spell at at club, with Kettering Town. During that time Westcarr scored 23 goals which earned him a deal with Notts County in 2009.
His spell at Notts County was probably his most consistent, scoring 23 goals in 87 appearances. Following his departure from Notts County he signed for Chesterfield and scored 10 goals in 50 appearances which alerted Walsall boss Dean Smith to loan him in 2012, his impressive displays earned him a permanent deal here at The Banks’s Stadium but expired at the end of last season.
Everyone at Vital Walsall wishes Craig the best of luck for the forthcoming season.
