Westy debate rumbles on

The poll was kept running over the weekend to allow any change of heart following saturdays game, boy did things change.

Whilst the majority (38%) still feel that he is a player we should give more time too, he lost 20% of the vote over the weekend. Since the critical eye of the Bescot Boys saw him pitched against the pace of Julian Joachim and then Carlos Logan. Whilst defending well against this pair, Westy suffered a nightmare in terms of distrubution, finding the stand more regularly than his colleagues.

This showed as the main other area of change was those that thought he was a liability (shot up from 12% to 30%).
Another 19% felt that Chris Westwood was a good player but has unfortunatly become a bit of a scapegoat.

Of those that showed a preferance 9% thought he has the making of a good full back, with only 4% feeling he is a good centre half.

So the massive swings just show how divided the fans are. It suggests that we are willing to give him more time. Hartlepool fans have told us that it took two seasons for him to settle at Hartlepool before becomming a crowd favorite, it looks like it could be a similar process at Bescot. However it also looks like that we are not willing to give him too much longer.

Lets remember he has the faith of the management and players at Bescot, so booing and giving him stick during games is counter productive. It helps the opposition and just reduces the players own confidence and self belief.

In truth it is hard to understand how we are so divided about a defence that has kept five clean sheets in six games.
