What A Way To End A Historic Week

|

What a way to end such a historic week!

The Saddlers provided a spirited, gritted and well organised performance to win our first game of the new season and our first away win since January.

A first half header from skipper James Clarke was enough for the Saddlers to take all three points and many would say if Northampton were still playing now they still wouldn’t have scored!

Special mention to the 1,455 Saddlers fans that made the journey to Sixfields. That is by far the best away support I have seen for some time, let’s keep that up for the remainder of the season.

Many Northampton fans were left puzzled as to why a club who had just been relegated would serve up a party like atmosphere – it’s because we all feel alive again following the takeover from Leigh Pomlett.

Special mentions from the game. Liam Roberts, had his critics at the end of last season and also had his critics throughout pre-season but he produced two fantastic saves that kept the Saddlers in front. James Clarke, leader of men. Constantly shouting at his full backs and his team in front. Made some superb tackles and scored the winner – not a bad debut. Cameron Pring, whilst at times his defending was a lot to be desired his attacking play was superb with so many crosses and bursts into the box. Danny Guthrie, superb delivery for the goal and we missed him when he was taken off.

As Clarke says “don’t get carried away” but yesterday was more than a result.

Our fan base is again united and when we are all together as one, there isn’t any club who are followed away as good as ours.

We have our Walsall back.

Long may it continue.
