Walsall interim head coach Jon Whitney has applauded the team of 2016 as the best group of players he’s worked with.
Speaking to official site, Whitney said ‘”I`ve said it before but this is the best group I`ve worked with,” said Whitney.
“We`ve got a fantastic work ethic, great application. There are no energy sappers – in the past there have been.
“When I wanted to be a footballer it was an absolute dream – it was all I thought about.
“I think football has lost that concept. It`s become too commercialised and money driven. But I want my players to have that fire in the belly that I`ve got.
“I don`t want them to just to have the title of professional footballer because that means nothing, but to have a career as a professional footballer – that`s what it means.
“You look at Adam Chambers and James O`Connor, they`ve got that longevity because of their habits, work ethic, desire and burning passion to be the best they can be.’
Whitney is set to take charge of his first game this afternoon following the sacking of Sean O’Driscoll.
