After another disappointing away defeat on Saturday, the Saddlers supporters leaving the DW Stadium must have been wondering whether the victory at Oxford was simply a false dawn.

The Wigan defeat was disappointing not only because of the score line but mainly down to the performance (or lack of it). Walsall only threatened after the 80 minute mark, when it was all too late, and Whitney feels that his side need to be able to adapt their game when on the road.

Speaking to the
Express & Star , Whitney said: “We need to do more to pick up wins away from home. It was great getting that win at Oxford.

“But sometimes you need to come away from home and be quite ugly. There are times when you need to scrap and fight and I don`t think we did that at Wigan.

“We want to entertain at home and play with energy. But we need to keep that away from home as well.”

And the Saddlers have the chance to put it right on Saturday as rivals, and table topping, Shrewsbury Town visit the Banks’s.
