Walsall striker Andy Cook has today been rewarded for his efforts as he has been named for League 1 player of the month for January.

Despite our form and season being abject Cookie has been the only shining success from it and finally gets the recognition he deserves.

Cookie scored five goals in four games in January, including his hat-trick away to Gillingham. Taking his tally for the season to fifteen in both league and cup.

He faces stern competition though with James Collins (Luton), Jacob Brown (Barnsley) and Ruben Lameiras (Plymouth).

The winner will be announced on Friday morning following voting from a three team panel which includes former Saddlers striker Don Goodman.

Not that we are biased but Cookie deserves the award for carrying this side over recent months. Unless we are mistaken the last player to carry the side (Erhun Oztumer) was the last Saddlers player to be nominated for the award back in November 2016.

p.s. Walsall FC give him a new contract!
