Woeful First Half Leaves Saddlers With Too Much To Do

|

Well we didn’t expect that performance did we?

We have been accustomed to a Saddlers side under Dean Keates to play with pride and to give everything for the shirt but yesterday’s first half performance was abject, spineless and clueless – that’s being kind!

Thay first half performance is up there with the worst performances I have seen as a Saddlers fan and my god we have had to endure some rubbish!

I don’t normally single players out but Kane Wilson, Isaiah Osbourne and Morgan Ferrier all had stinkers yesterday with the latter showing no sign of effort in the first half – something we as fans don’t enjoy watching.

Burton saw our weak link in Wilson and exploited it time and time again – why Deano feels he gives more to the side than Devlin I have no idea but it’s clear to see that the loan signing was a panicked one and one which will continue to lose us more than we win.

Lets not lose realism that Burton were blooming good but at the same time we made it far too easy for them!

For all his praise in his eight months in charge he has to be open to criticism and Keatesy got it massively wrong yesterday. Yes we know it’s rare to change a winning side but after twenty five minutes we were 2-0 down and could have easily been four. At that moment he should have made at least two substitutions but it took until the seventy fifth minute to have the side on the pitch that we should have had after twenty five.

Only a handful of players can come out of that game with any self respect – Liam Roberts, Nicky Devlin and Andy Cook. The rest need to have a good look at themselves in the mirror this morning.

It was after those final subs that we started to play how we expect us to. With the Saddlers coming very close to turning around the 3-0 deficit. Had either Cooks open goal, Ginnelly’s rebound or Ferrier’s shot gone in it could have been a completely different last twenty minutes however we left ourselves with too much to do and we found ourselves on the end of a defeat for the third time in four games!

The Saddlers are conceding goals for fun. The stats show the Saddlers have been fortunate to be in the top ten given the shots against column – the last four games of conceding ten goals shows that the luck is finally running out and it’s now time to stop leaking so many chances.

We are still only three points off the play offs but those around us are slowly closing the gap. We need a response against Charlton – another off day like yesterday and we will lose heavily again.

We can’t have many more games like yesterday, it’s inexusible.
